Using her vast experience and education in management, interior design / decoration and development, which she acquired in the UK, she has been contributing, in good measure to planning the right architecture, aesthetics and all round growth of townships being developed by Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. as part of social corporate responsibility. These townships, spread all over India are seen as model vistas of well planned, skillfully laid out, refined and modern dwelling units and offer all inclusive and modern facilities to residents, making life easier for them. The townships include housing complexes shopping arcades, community centres, guest/club houses, schools (CBSC affiliated), hospitals / dispensaries, recreation parks, playgrounds, etc. She personally oversees the planning, layout and development of green spaces in her husband's parliamentary constituency of Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Yamunanagar besides her mother-in-law's constituency of Hissar in the district of Haryana.
Very close to the people of the historic Kurukshetra, she maintains her ties with the constituency regularly and has seen at close hands the development and imparting of various education programs for girls in the region. She has seen education as a redeeming and positive force in her life too and feels that has helped her a lot in creating a well evolved ethos and positive way of life.
In her multifaceted roles as dancer, and an avid lover of art, Shallu plays diverse roles with aplomb. As Vice President of the Flag Foundation of India ( www.flagfoundationofindia.in ), the President of Openspace Jindal Foundation for Development ( www.jindalopenspace.org ), she has been promoting various art forms & welfare, development programmes in India and abroad. She is also the Founder President of the Young FICCI Ladies Organisation (YFLO). She has brought out an impressive book called 'Tiranga: A Celebration of the National Flag', and launched an art exhibition which has around 100 works on the Tiranga, as well as an audio album 'Tiranga Tera Anchal'. Her interest also includes education and was a member of the executive council of the Children's Film Society of India (CFSI). Shallu is actively involved in community development projects in Raigarh (Chhattisgarh) and Kurukshetra, Naveen Jindal's constituency. She is also working on a museum project in Chhattisgarh, to promote tribal art and craft.
