Openspace ( www.jindalopenspace.org ) is a platform for the development of cultural, artistic, educational, and intellectual or any other form of expression. As the name suggests, it is an abstract and ideological space that promotes dialogue and debate, a space that harbours experimentation, exploration and expansion of ideas and skills. A space that aims to push the limits of creative thinking and dissolve boundaries.
Openspace Jindal Foundation for Development is a very young organization. As the President of Openspace, Ms. Shallu initiated various activities like a talk on climate change with the Noble Laureate Dr. R.K Pachauri who presented the various issues concerned with Global Warming so that we can think for the care of Our Earth. A young NRI filmmaker was encouraged for screening of documentaries on India titled "Indique: Untold stories of Contemporary India" followed by a high level panel discussion on India @ 60: changing images of India in global media. During Independence Day celebrations a Kavi Sammelan was organised with the renowned poets celebrating the spirit of Independence. Also a 10-day workshop was organized with music maestros Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan wherein various children have learnt & presented patriotic songs 'Swadheenta Ke Geet / Swar'.
Openspace is sponsoring Mountain Children's Foundation (MCF) to bring out their monthly magazine "Parvatiya Bal Manch" (PABAM). This magazine links and brings together more than 13,000 children, across 600 rural communities of the hill state of Uttarakhand and carries their aspirations and ambitions to the district and state government. The Foundation works with young people in the villages to help them transform their communities at the very grass-roots. It does so by organizing children to think, plan and work together to identify and address local problems. Joined together by PABAM these children are today bringing about dramatic changes in their communities in the areas of education, health, environment, and governance.
